Barberton Mountains – South Africa.

Barberton, the Genesis of Life, is asmall beautiful town situated on the province of  Mpumalanga in S.A. This little town has the most amazing mountains and the landscape is just awesome even in winter and we love our regular walks around here.

Winter beauty. Most of the mountain gets burned every winter, sad to say, but the parts where there was no burning are absolutely full of beauty.

A beautiful protea bud. We find lots of them around here, but many die or struggle to survive because of the winter fires.

Us having a little picnic of hot bread dipped on chocolate sauce.

There are beautiful mountains like this everywhere we look.

Jenifer enjoying a book more then the mountain. She was reading inside the car most of the time.

I hope you love this pictures and remember that when you are very busy or stressed with work or other bothering issues, a walk in nature is absolutely tranformationl and renewing.

After spending some time close to nature you’ll notice that your thoughts become more positive and your outlook on things also changes, everything will look more bright and you’ll see with clarity of mind and more inspired ideas will pop into your mind.

Is Your Glass Half-empty?

Happiness

Happiness (Photo credit: baejaar)You miss so much if you look at life through the half-empty glass. Taking the negative slant on life leads to a life of negative thinking that never sees the good things that life has to offer.

Take a moment and write down all the things that are wrong with your life. Then, on a different piece of paper, write down all of the blessings you have. For a negative person, this can be hard. Did you wake up in a warm bed this morning? Was your bed warm? Was there someone on the other side of the bed? Did you have breakfast? Did you go to a job? In a car? Did you have clean, decent clothes to put on? Each any every one of these things are blessings and are a positive part of your life. It can be so easy to think about the negative things: I don’t get paid enough, my car is old, and the cereal wasn’t fresh – come on! Half the world would love to have the things you took for granted just this morning!

What do you ever get out of life by looking at the negative aspects of your it? Are you a complainer? Are you a complainer because of your circumstances or do your circumstances make you complain? How much worse could things be? When you really think about your life, aren’t you truly blessed compared  to others around the planet?

Try thinking positively as a way of finding happiness and satisfaction in your life. Complaining does nothing, except making you feel more unhappy and make others around you feel bad, and if that’s your intention, you need to re-think it, because I am sure that you want to be happy and one way to find happiness is to do things that make others happy.

You are the only one that can make yourself happy, if you depend on people, things or circumstances to make you happy, you’ll never be, but if you decide that you’ll be happy in spite of all those things and centre your attention on making someone else happy instead of yourself, then happiness will find you.

Be a Good Listener

Communication

Communication (Photo credit: P Shanks)

One of the key factors in good communicating is the ability to be a good listener.

We all feel the need to be understood, we like when others listen and sympathise with us, because it helps us to clarify issues in our minds and boosts our confidence making it easier to communicate our thoughts. It just feels good to have someone that takes their time to listen. But when we feel the other person is not interested or receptive to what we want to say, we immediately shut ourselves and keep inside whatever it is that we would like to share. That’s a sad thing to happen and we should always be willing to learn and to go the extra mile to listen to others. We all need each other at one time or another, and who knows? You might be their last resort, the one they really trust to help them find a solution to their problem or get some sort of encouragement inspiration or advice that can greatly influence their life for the better.

Being a good listener is a priceless gift that we all have, but that is not developed to its full potential in many of us, sad to say.

When somebody is trying to communicate something  to us, we should just listen, not only with our ears but also with our heart  and really t make the effort to put ourselves in the other person’s shoes, but more  often than not, instead of paying attention to what the person is trying to communicate,  we are already formulating in our minds the answers  we are going to give them, and because of that we don’t really listen therefore  we are not able to understand the person, and in many cases making the wrong assumptions and judgments, ending up giving the wrong advice or worse than that making the other person feeling misunderstood, discouraged or judged.

The good news is that we all have the ability to be good listeners, we are all gifted with all that it takes to be a blessing to others, we just need to perfect our gift of listening, practice it until we are good at it.

These are few things we can do to help us be better listeners:

1)  Listen without judgment; keep your mind focus on what the other person is saying to you

2)      When you are tempted to give a quick answer, just silently and slowly count to ten. By doing this you will learn to be more in tune with the other person and at the same time hear more clearly what they are trying to communicate to you.

3)      Make sure that your focus is always on the other person not yourself, or the good advice you are eager to deliver.

4)       Make it a point to listen intently to the other person, instead of formulating answers in your mind.

5)      Do not interrupt, wait until the person is finished talking before you have your say.

6)      When giving your answer, don’t always follow what looks like common sense or logic, instead follow your intuition, your intuition is the first thing that comes to your mind, it does not seem logic, but it feels right, and it is usually right. It will come to you when the person has finished talking.

These are just a few things we can do, but there are so much more that we can learn. Let’s all try to be better listeners and use the ability we have to be a blessing to others and in return it will also be a blessing to ourselves, because there is nothing more fulfilling and rewarding, than being able to inspire and encourage someone else.

More than often by being a blessing to others, we realize that as we give we also receive and learn things about ourselves, things we haven’t thought about before,  and at the same time discover hidden gifts and talents we did ‘t know we had.

Managing Stress

Stress has always been a part of our daily lives. We often find ways to deal it with but can become unbearable when you’re tightly under its grip. The important part here is to take control of stress before it ends up controlling you — which is to say that you will be making a lot of mistakes that will take quite a lot of time and effort to fix. This is where stress management comes in.

Why Get Rid Of Stress

We can never deny the fact that stress can be a big hindrance in everything you plan to do with your life. It can get in the way of business, career, or even with your family and friends. If you give in to the irritation and anger that is often the result of stress, you are bound to make wrong decisions and plenty of mistakes that will bring you down.

You can lose your job, do badly in a business deal, or even make enemies left and right when you let your stress control you. Learn to control stress and get rid of it every time it crops up for self-improvement.

Find The Source Of Your Stress

Knowing the source of your stress gives you plenty of options to counter it. If your stress stems from overwork, then take some time off from your busy schedule to relax.

The home can also become a stressful environment, especially when it’s disorganized. If you think that the design of the interior is giving you problems, then take some time to rearrange the furniture around or add some home décor to make it comfortable to look at.  Once you are able to determine the problem then you can take the necessary steps to correct it.

Learn To Relax Once In A While

Everyone would agree that work, or the demands of work, is mostly the cause of stress. If you think that you have that wild look in your eyes every time your boss asks you to do something, then you better ask for a vacation leave to relax yourself outside your work area before it leads you into trouble.

Take some time off from your busy schedule and visit the local spa. Pamper yourself by indulging in a full-body massage or get an aromatherapy session going on to help you relax. You can always take a vacation if you really want to get the thoughts of work out of your system, but a massage will do just fine if you can’t afford to be absent from it.

Find The Child Within You

Kids are known to be stress-free. Even if you scold them or force them to eat vegetables, you will never see them suffer from stress. The reason here is with their mind-set to enjoy life as they see fit. You can take your cue from them and enjoy life more.

Find your inner child and just play. You can grab your Play station out of the cabinet and bring out the games you usually play during your free time. Another idea is to listen to your favourite music or read some comics on the Internet. You can even play online games if you like just to get your mind off your work.

Keep in mind that the gist of stress management is not the methods you take for getting stress out of your system. The idea here is to learn how to divert your mind from the problems that causes stress to give yourself time to relax and face the problem with a clear mind.
